MORE than half of people in Braintree have now received their first dose of Covid vaccine, figures reveal.

The latest available data from the NHS, which only takes into consideration jabs given out up until March 21, shows 53 per cent of people aged 16 and over in the district have received their vaccinations.

More than 51,971 of those residents were ages 50 or over, while more than 12,968 were aged between 16 and 49.

Meaning 83 per cent of over 50s have now received theirs first dose.

Across England, 23.7 million people had received their first dose of a vaccine by March 21, covering 52% of the population aged 16 and over.

On Monday (March 29) more restrictions are set to be eased with the return of the 'rule of six'.

The move marks the second stage of 'step one' on the roadmap and comes nearly two weeks after restrictions started to be lifted with children returning to school.

From Monday the stay at home order will end meaning people are free to go outdoors for non-essential reasons.

Gathering of six people of two households will also be permitted anywhere outdoors, including the garden of someone's home.

Outdoor sports facilities like tennis courts, and gold courses can also reopen.
