Two men have been arrested following reports a gun had been spotted in Witham.
Residents reported seeing armed police and a helicopter around Bramble Road earlier today.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We have arrested two men in Witham on suspicion of firearms offences following a call at around 11.20am today, Thursday, April 4.
"We received a call from a woman after she saw men walking in Bramble Road with a suspected firearm.
"Armed police attended the scene and arrested two men who have been taken to custody for questioning."
Police say no weapons have yet been found but enquiries are continuing.
