A TOWN leisure centre is set for a six-figure investment to help improve its facilities.

As part of the Swimming Pool Support Fund, the Witham Leisure Centre will receive £375,350 to deliver improvements in energy efficiency through the use of solar panels, and by replacing existing fluorescent lighting with LED lamps.

Following increases in operating costs of swimming pools and leisure facilities, it is hoped the funding will help ensure access to facilities and make swimming more accessible for people of all ages.

The grants provided through the support fund, which range in size from £3,000 to nearly £1million, have helped to fund projects and support swimming pools and leisure centres across the country.

The money comes from the £60.5 million phase two of the Swimming Pool Support Fund (SPSF), and has been split between 325 pools at more than 260 local authorities.

This is the latest round of funding provided to Witham Leisure Centre, which is managed by Fusion Lifestyle.

Previous funding via the Home Office Safer Streets programme, established by Dame Priti during her time as Home Secretary, has helped provide free self-defence classes, and recently a community garden area funded through another scheme opened.

Dame Priti said: "I welcome this latest funding for Witham Leisure Centre, which will help deliver significant energy efficiency improvements for the building, and I am pleased that local residents will be able to have even better facilities.

“Witham Leisure Centre has received a significant level of investment through government projects to support community facilities.”
