The community is set to come together and say farewell to a much-loved pub landlord.

Scott Gilhooly’s funeral is due to be held today (Thursday, June 11) with only a small number of family and friends allowed to attend because of social distancing rules.

Mr Gilhooly died, aged 44, following an incident at his pub, the Swiss Bell, in Mountbatten Road, Braintree, on May 17.

A hearse carrying the landlord is due to travel past the pub ahead of his funeral and will pause there so people can pay their respects.

Well-wishers are being urged to line the streets to pay tribute to Mr Gilhooly and give him a send-off to remember.

Speaking in the group, Aidan Kelly said: “It is with a heavy, sad and broken heart to announce details of Scott Gilhooly’s funeral arrangements.

“Scott will arrive at his family home at 1.50pm and he will leave on his final journey, going via the Swiss Bell Pub at approximately 2pm, then on to a private ceremony with immediate family only.

“There has been an overwhelming outpouring of affection, expressions of love, support and cherished memories in Scott’s sad and tragic passing.

“Let’s all remember Scott, pay our respects, positively reflect and celebrate his life by lining the route from outside the Swiss Bell on this day.”

A post mortem found he died from stab wounds to the neck and chest.
