CONCERNED residents had to call in the RSPCA for help after they spotted the cockerel in town.
The animal was spotted in the Rectory Lane area of Witham before RSPCA inspector Jessica Dayes managed to catch the cockerel, although it did give her a bit of the run around to start.
Jessica said he was "in good health" despite fending for himself for over a week.

She added: "I made some enquiries in the local area but nobody was missing him. I’ve also put up posters in the area and his details have been posted on the Pets Located website.
“He certainly gave me the run around and it took me almost an hour to finally catch him.
"He’s now being cared for by South Essex Wildlife Hospital.
"If anyone has any information regarding him we would ask them to contact the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018."
