FORMER Colchester United goalkeeper Carl Pentney has taken over as Ipswich Town's temporary goalkeeper coach.

The Colchester-born former shot-stopper, who spent three years at the U's, has taken over from another ex-Colchester keeper in the role, after Jimmy Walker left the club earlier this month.

Pentney will serve as the League One club's goalkeeper coach until a replacement for Walker is appointed.

The 31-year-old joined Ipswich's academy staff in November, 2019 after leaving National League South outfit Chelmsford City.

He has been working as Town's academy goalkeeper-coach, working at all levels from under-nine up to under-23 level.

He replaced Darren Smith, who left to link up with Colchester's senior coaching staff.

Pentney started his playing career at Leicester City and after leaving them in 2010, joined Colchester.

He was at the JobServe Community Stadium between 2010 and 2013 but did not make a senior appearance for the U's.

Pentney went on to spend the rest of his playing career in non-league, representing the likes of Bishop's Stortford, Braintree Town and Maidenhead United and had four separate spells at Chelmsford.
