Braintree Town are closing in on a double transfer swoop.

Manager George Borg has money to burn, following the recent departures of Warren McBean and Stephen Hughes and the summer transfer of Alex Revell, to Brighton and Hove Albion.

And Iron have held talks with a highly-rated striker, as they attempt to find a player capable of forging a partnership with James Baker and Eugene Ofori in attack.

Borg refused to name the striker in question - but revealed that the player he wants is both in-form and highly-sought after.

He said: "He's scoring lots of goals and he's had a lot of offers from other clubs.

"He's very quick and lively and he's also a very loyal player and I like that in him.

"We're not going to rush into anything but we've already had two discussions and I'm hoping to tie something up early next week."

Braintree are also in the running to sign a former fans' favourite, although Borg again was reluctant to name the player.

In addition, the Conference South club have spoken to two Coca-Cola League clubs, with a view to drafting in two players on loan.

Braintree's next competitive match is away to Salisbury City in Conference South, on Saturday week.
