Jamie Guy has vowed to reward Braintree Town fans for their generosity by hitting the goal trail in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Iron striker Guy suffered a horrific leg injury playing for the club in a Blue Square Bet South game at Eastleigh, in February.

The 23-year-old suffered an open double fracture of his leg when he broke his tibia and fibula following a collision with Eastleigh goalkeeper Gareth Barfoot.

Guy has spent the last few months on the comeback trail and is hoping to return to full training in September.

And following his benefit match last night between Braintree and former club Colchester United at Cressing Road, the striker said he is determined to repay Iron and their fans for their part in helping him get through what has been a tough few months.

Guy told the Times: “Everyone at Braintree has been brilliant ever since I joined – the board, the chairman, the fans have been massively supportive.

“People were very generous towards me when I first suffered the injury and I was bowled over by it all, I couldn’t believe it.

“I’d like to repay everyone by coming back and scoring goals for Braintree in the Conference.

“It’s a tough division and there are a lot of big clubs in there, former League clubs.

“But I know that the boys are more than capable of holding their own this season.

“We’ve already brought in a few new players and I’m sure there’ll be a few more, too.”
