Witham Town were beaten 3-2 by East Thurrock United last night, in their latest pre-season friendly.

It was certainly a game of two halves at Spa Road, as both teams made a plethora of substitutions throughout the game.

Witham were the better team in the first half and were two goals ahead at half-time.

Sam Taylor put them ahead after 25 minutes when he took on the East Thurrock defence and shot low into the net.

And Stuart Fergus doubled Witham's lead when he fired through a crowded goalmouth, following a corner.

Fergus was unlucky not to score again when his 30-yard shot crashed against the crossbar.

But it was a different story in the second half, as East Thurrock roared back.

They scored three goals - two from headers and one when a corner deceived the Town goalkeeper and found the net.

The visitors also missed a penalty in the second half, as they ran out winners in a five-goal thriller.
