Braintree Town boss Rod Stringer is closing in on signing a new striker, as Iron prepare for the all-important run-in.

With seven games to go, Stringer is anxious to ensure his side do not fall at the final hurdle, as they close in on promotion from Blue Square Bet South.

Iron are one point clear of second-placed Farnborough, at the top of the table.

Stringer is close to bringing in another forward before the deadline expires today.

Meanwhile, leading goalscorer Sean Marks could figure in Braintree’s home game against Dorchester Town on Saturday, having been sidelined for several weeks with a groin problem.

Stringer said: “We’re hoping that Sean might be back in contention on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Braintree have drafted in former Bishop’s Stortford boss Mark Simpson as part of their coaching team.
