STEVE Pitt is looking for improvement from his new-look Braintree Town squad when they play their next friendly at Aveley, on Saturday.

The Iron lost 3-2 at Welling United in their latest pre-season game, on Tuesday night.

Pitt told the Braintree Town YouTube channel : "I'll be looking for an improvement.

"We're probably going to have to nail down a system now, rather than going with two different systems which we've done at Brightlingsea and [Welling].

"We're probably going to have to work more on a system now and certainly in terms of possession of the football, we need to be consistently better over 90 minutes, as opposed to doing it in patches and periods in games."

Braintree, who included a number of trialists in their squad at Welling, fell behind in the second minute to an own goal.

However, they equalised Anisius Lewis, who tapped home after good work by fellow new signing, Courtney Senior.

The teams went in level at the break but Braintree went ahead midway through the second half when Fletcher Hubbard netted from the spot.

But Welling equalised with eight minutes remaining, before one of the Iron's trialists was sent off soon after.

The hosts duly grabbed a stoppage-time winner, as Braintree were beaten.

Braintree travel to play Aveley on Saturday in their latest pre-season game, kick-off 3pm.

The Iron get their National League South season underway with a home game against Tonbridge Angels, on August 8.
