KYREECE Lisbie's loan switch to Braintree Town can be a 'good stepping stone' for the Colchester United winger.

That's the view of U's boss Danny Cowley, who believes the young attacker can really benefit from his temporary move to the National League side.

Lisbie joined Braintree on loan from Colchester on Monday and made an immediate impact for his new club, scoring one goal along with making another and securing the man of the match award in their National League Cup quarter-final win over Brighton and Hove Albion under-21s, on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old, who joined the U's from Brentford on deadline day on a deal until 2027, is yet to make his senior debut for Colchester and boss Cowley says his move to Braintree, where he has linked up with twin brother Kyrell Lisbie, can be beneficial for the youngster.

Cowley, who managed Braintree between 2015 and 2016, said: "Ky's a great kid - we think a lot of him.

"He's got some brilliant attributes.

"He hasn't played any senior football yet in his career and we just thought it was a really good opportunity for him to go and get a run of games, at a club that he knows.

"It was always really the plan for us for him to come in, for us to get to know him and get to work with him and for him to spend a little bit of time in and around us, learning about our game idea and how we play.

"Then it was either going to be to then come in and affect our first team or to go out and get a run of games.

"It's always for me to think what are the stepping stones for Ky to get into the first team and playing regularly and performing consistently and I think this is a really good stepping stone for him.

"Whether he'll come back before the end of the season or whether he'll be back at the beginning of pre-season, we'll wait and see but it'll definitely be a good stepping stone.

"We love Braintree and we always try to help them, if we can.

"They're obviously fighting relegation and got a really good result last weekend (at AFC Fylde) and won in the cup on Tuesday."
