A NEW era is upon Maldon and Tiptree Football Club after businessmen and couple Barrie and Scott Drewitt Barlow announced the purchase of the Park Drive football club and its surrounding facilities.

And they are hoping to create a 'Cinderella story' in similar fashion to Wrexham, who were transformed by Hollywood owners.

Barrie said: “We could not be prouder to be the new custodians of Maldon and Tiptree Football Club.

"We’re here as local people who want to give back to our local community.

"Our aim is to bring joy and brighter days to our football club that we look forward to having a long stewardship over.”

The couple have big plans for the club, that will see significant improvements in every area of the club creating employment, education and football opportunities for the people of Maldon and the surrounding towns.

The multi-million pound buyout is now complete and the team supporting Barrie and Scott from The Drewitt Barlow Organisation are hard at work to improve facilities, create community links, create employment for local people and create a club for footballers of all ages to enjoy and flourish at whilst working hard to create a successful first team on the pitch.

Scott said: “Owning a football club has been my childhood dream, to do it with my family, buying our local football club in a town that has given my family so much is a dream come true.

"I hope we can have a Cinderella story, just like Wrexham.

“We have said enough, it’s now time for us to back up what we have said with action covering areas of the football club.

"From simple improvements around the ground to a sports bar that will bring live entertainment and so much more, to bring the local community together.”

Maldon and Tiptree's first game under the new ownership will be their home clash with Haringey Borough in Pitching In Isthmian League division north, kick-off 3pm.

Barrie added: “We have a home game this Saturday at 3pm, get yourself down to the club, support the team and make some noise, as we certainly will be. UP THE JAMMERS.”

Speaking at the end of last year, Colchester chairman Robbie Cowling said: "I am excited by Barrie and Scott’s interest and would be delighted to hand over the incredible stadium and facilities at Park Drive to them, confident they will take the club to the next level.

"During my ownership, the stadium has proudly hosted an FA Cup 1st round fixture against Morecambe and a 2nd round televised fixture against Newport County.

"I will always be a supporter of Maldon and Tiptree FC and am committed to ensuring Colchester United continues working with the club to provide a pathway to professional football for academy and grassroots players."
