COLCHESTER United head coach Danny Cowley has tipped Frankie Terry to have a 'really good career' after the young defender made his maiden EFL start.

Terry made his league bow in the U's starting line-up in their 2-0 reverse to Accrington Stanley, last weekend.

The 20-year-old, who is the nephew of former Chelsea and England star John Terry, played at left-back for the U's in the League Two clash.

The young defender had been on loan at National League side Braintree Town, where he had made a good impression this season before being recalled by the U's, last week.

Cowley said: “I’m proud of Frankie – he’s going to go on and have a really good career.

“They were really tough circumstances, because he’s been out on loan; he has been in the building but very infrequently.

“I’m proud that he’s been able to make his first EFL start."

Terry, who has now made five senior appearances for Colchester, played for 55 minutes against Accrington before being replaced by Arthur Read.

Cowley said: “We took Frankie off and brought Arthur (Read) in, left footer, to try to bring us a little bit more attacking intent."

Terry was not the only player to leave Braintree, last week.

Goalkeeper Lucas Covolan also departed the Iron, after his contract came to an end.

The Brazilian shot-stopper, who starred in the FA Cup for George Elokobi's Maidstone United side last season, joined the club in August.

In a statement, Braintree said: 'We can confirm that Goalkeeper Lucas Covolan’s contract has come to an end and will be leaving the club.

'Lucas joined the Iron in August and we would like to thank him for his hard work throughout his time at the club. All the best for the future Lucas.

'Once an Iron always an Iron'.
