BRAINTREE Town have appointed Steve Pitt as their new first-team manager.

Pitt, who worked as assistant manager to Angelo Harrop from the summer of 2022 to his departure at the end of 2023, has taken charge of the National League Club.

Braintree have also brought in Colchester United legend Karl Duguid as assistant manager and another former U’s player, Phil Coleman, as first-team coach.

Pitt said: “I’m honoured and privileged to take on the role of first team manager at Braintree Town FC and will now look to build on the foundations that Angelo has already laid.

"We are now all looking forward to the challenge that lays ahead."

Pitt’s first game in charge will be Braintree’s home clash with National League rivals Forest Green Rovers in the FA Trophy, on Saturday.

Braintree chairman Lee Harding said: “When we approached Steve about the job he was about to take another role in the game.

“We talked at length about what had happened and were impressed with his honest assessment of where the club are at and his thoughts on turning our season around.

“We all know there is work ahead of us but we know Steve well.

“It’s good to see him back at our club.

“He played a pivotal role in our progress in the past two seasons and I am confident that we can look forward to the remainder of the season with optimism."

Braintree have thanked Justin Moseley who stood in as interim manager for the club’s last two games, following Harrop’s departure.

Moseley was invited to remain part of the Iron’s coaching set-up but has decided his future lies elsewhere.
