BRAINTREE Town promotion winner Jack Sims has left the club to join their National League rivals Sutton United.

The 25-year-old has left Iron after two seasons, where the goalkeeper played a key role in the club's promotion success via the play-offs in National League South, along with a Essex Senior Cup Final win.

After negotiations between Sims and Braintree were unsuccessful, the National League South team of the season member has now left the club and joined Sutton, who were relegated from League Two last season.

Writing on social media, Sims said: 'After 2 years, an Essex senior cup and play off win it’s time to say goodbye!

'I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the club! All the players and staff you have been amazing. To the fans, you’ll always hold a place in my heart🧡💙Thank you @braintreetownfc'

Speaking on the Sutton website, Sims added: "I want to test myself, especially after the year I had I deserve to play at the level and I hope I can push on and try (and) emulate the same at this level."

Sutton head coach Steve Morison told the club's website: ''I'd like to welcome Simo to Sutton United and say how pleased I am to make a quality addition to the goalkeeping department.

"He is at a great age and comes to us off the back of an excellent season at Braintree where he won promotion and was a standout performer with 18 clean sheets.

"He'll add great competition, and with the chance to learn from Steve Arnold's years of experience as a top goalkeeper and with Andy Little's expertise he joins an excellent unit.''

Sims started his career at home town club Southend United before joining Blackpool as a 16-year-old and made one EFL appearance.

While with the Tangerines, the shot-stopper had loan spells at Skelmersdale United and Lancaster City.

After being released by Blackpool, keeper Sims joined Welling United for the 2021-22 season being moving to Braintree, where he was the regular goalkeeper for two seasons.
