BRAINTREE Town picked up another valuable point in National League South after playing out a 0-0 draw at Tonbridge Angels, writes DAVID WARD.

The Iron picked up another valuable point and kept another clean sheet at Longmead in a game that was poor on quality and with rare moments of decent football to entertain the crowd of 765.

Braintree manager Ryan Maxwell said: "It was another important point for us although we had some good attacks in the second half with chances to score.

"With both sides so keen on getting points to move away from the relegation zone and both fighting hard it was never going to be a classic.

"I felt we could have done better in front of goal because we had some good, forward movement and created the right openings.

"But again it was that final pass into the danger area that all too often let us down.

"But I'm certainly not despondent because again we played well for most of the game and always looked the more likely side to break the deadlock.

"Disappointed? Yes I am because I believed we should have won the game but in the end we've a point and we move on.

"We've another big home game on Tuesday when Ebbsfleet arrive and we certainly have a score to settle with them having been cheated out of two clear penalties by the officials on the night when we certainly deserved a draw at least."

With young full-back Matt Moloney suspended, Jean-Baptiste Fischer slotted in to replace him for Braintree while Kamil Conteh also came into the starting line-up.

The Iron made the early running with both Gianni Critchlow and Stefan Ilic working the flanks and causing a few moments of panic in the home defence.

But it was the final movement in the home area that let them down whilst at the other end the now customary Iron defence held firm.

The Iron looked much stronger in the second half and pushed forward in numbers with Ilic, Luke Holness and Conteh all going close to try and break the deadlock but it reality it was poor finishing.

Khale Da Costa, Dejon Noel-Williams and Ola Wasiri Williams were brought on in the second half at the expense of Conteh, Crichlow and Holness to try and add more bite in attack.

They certainly made an impact and late on, both Ilic and Da Costa had appeals for penalties turned down by referee Joel Mannix.

It seemed a draw and a share of the spoils was going to be the eventual outcome and that's exactly what happened.

Braintree host Ebbsfleet United at the Dunmow Group Stadium on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
