BRAINTREE Town extended their National League South unbeaten run to seven matches with a deserved 1-0 win over ten-man Hungerford Town, writes DAVID WARD.

And the Iron's margin of victory should have been even greater in front of a crowd of 535 after the game was made free to enter, at the Dunmow Group Stadium.

Braintree manager Ryan Maxwell was delighted with the win, which lifts his side six points above the relegation zone.

Maxwell said: "I was absolutely thrilled with this latest win again what is a very good side in our league.

"Yes, it was a win and I think we fully deserved it because we were the better side and created all the goal chances.

"We stretched them repeatedly down either flank, managed to get behind their backline but it was that final ball into the danger area from the byline that let us down.

"That's perhaps the one disappointment of the afternoon is that we worked the ball forward brilliantly and caused them a great deal of problems in defence but we didn't fully capitalised on it.

"But I can't complain because again we looked really solid at the back, were more creative in midfield and every time we went forward we looked the more likely side to score."

Braintree and Witham Times:

Braintree created so many chances but in the end had to be content with a solitary goal scored in the 61st minute.

It stemmed from Kamil Conteh, who forced the ball home after Kyran Clements' header from Khale Da Costa corner had been charged down.

It was no more than the Watford loanee deserved after he bagged his first Iron goal as he has given a new dimension to the side's play, particularly when going forward but also for tracking back to help out the defence.

His experience at a Premier League club shows up in every game.

"Yes, he has come in and fitted so well and again like the other loan players shown that they want to do well for both the team and the club and I'm sure this rubs off too with some of the less experienced players," said Maxwell.

Braintree and Witham Times:

Braintree played against ten men for more than an hour after Duane Ofori-Acheamponc was sent off after 26 minutes.

Ofori-Acheamponc had been booked a few minutes prior to going straight through Iron defender Clements with a two-footed tackle.

Referee Matthew Norton was close by and rightly had no hesitation in showing the red card.

Maxwell added: "Certainly it was a bad tackle and the player can have no complaints because it could have caused serious injury to Kyran, who incidentally had another outstanding game for us and has worked hard in training and made massive progressive in his game for us this season.

"I know they had a player sent off in the first half but as many people know it's always not easy to play against a team one man short because they naturally raise their game."
