BRAINTREE Town progressed to the Essex Senior Cup fourth round following a 3-0 win over neighbours Witham Town, writes DAVID WARD.
The Iron progressed in comfort style at the Dunmow Group Stadium, beating their local rivals in an entertaining game watched by 103 spectators.
Two first-half well-taken goals by Luke Holness and a second-half penalty by Femi Akinwande sealed an easy win for the Iron who fielded a strong team.
And even with second half-substitutes they never looked in danger of losing the tie.
Had the Iron taken more of their goalscoring chances the final scoreline would have been greater in their favour.
Rhys Madden's excellent performance in the visitors' goal prevented further conceded goals for his side.
Next up for the Iron is the short trip to Canvey Island to take on Concord Rangers in the National League South on Saturday.
Braintree's new signing, striker Adam Morgan from Chelmsford City, is expected to be in the squad.
Leaving the Iron is striker Tom Derry who has joined league rivals Welling United.
