CRESSING karting ace Tyrone Stansfield took part in the first round of the Senior X30 Club Championship season, at Kimbolton.

Stansfield has changed classes, having left the Daniel Ricciardo Series to take part in the X30 series.

Stansfield said: “So we could finally get the season started after lockdowns. Lots of new challenges lie ahead, racing in a new class and I’ll be racing with some of the top drivers throughout the country,.

“Most of these drivers are out every weekend whether it be in the UK or Europe, so lots of experience and it will be great to learn from them!

“Overall, very happy with this. I wasn’t able to hit any kerbs because of my ribs so I feel pretty sure I could challenge the lap times and move further up the pack.

“But first round done and dusted, we have decided to not attend Whilton this weekend.

“I feel I need to rest my ribs, otherwise I’m just going to aggravate them more and not be 100 per cent for Kimbolton’s round two, second Saturday in May.

“Thanks as always goes to my dad for spannering and learning all the new set ups and quick fixes to get me to where I need to be.”

After heats he was placed 16th out of 46 and straight through to the main A final of 15 minutes plus one lap with 34 drivers.

Stansfield was 22nd but improved with every lap and got back to where he started - 16th and got his lap times to within just over a tenth off the fastest driver.

Stansfield thanked his sponsors K & B Tatam, G & B Finch Ltd, Kingwell Holdings Ltd, Atom Hydraulics, H & S Powder Coating and Sign Language Essex Ltd.
