BRAINTREE Town manager George Borg insists he will do everything he can to help them rise up the National League South table.

The Iron return to action this weekend with a important home clash with Hemel Hempstead Town, aiming to register their first win of the season.

Braintree have lost all three of their league games so far this season but face a Hemel Hempstead side who have also failed to register a point, so far.

Borg said: “I’ll try and get it right.

“We’re not a million miles away.

“We’ve got some great young players with enthusiasm and love to play football.

“But they also have to learn the ugly side of it and learn it quickly and I can only help them learn with some of that quality on the pitch through experienced players, which I’m trying to bring in.

“We’ve got some very good players.

“There’s a lot of talented young lads but unfortunately they lack experience.

“I knew that and we all knew that but unfortunately, I didn’t have the contact to bring in players.

“I spoke to a few top non-league players with experience but there are always other issues with that.

“We’re not good enough to compete with the likes of Dartford and Slough at the moment, because they have got some experienced players and that’s all I’m lacking.

“I’ve always had people like Ollie Adedeji and others who have helped the younger players on the pitch and organize them rather than me having to scream and shout for 90 minutes.

“It gets very, very frustrating.

“We felt we played Chippenham off the park and look what’s happened to them since they beat us.

“They won two on the spin and that’s all it takes to get everyone buzzing.

“Hopefully that will come sooner rather than later.”

Times are tough for all clubs at present due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with Braintree no exception.

Iron chairman Lee Harding is playing a huge role in helping to keep the club afloat in very difficult times, with fans still not permitted in stadiums.

Borg said: “I’m with the chairman 100 per cent and he’s a great man to work for.

“It’s tough for Lee and I’m digging in with him – we’ve been mates for a long time and I want to help as much as I can, until I can’t help anymore.

“He’s probably one of the only chairmen I’d work for, knowing what’s going on with everything at the moment.

“I’m just going to keep digging in and doing my best, until I can do no more.”
