SOUTHENDIAN Manor YFC are to merge with Old Southendian from the start of next season.

Both teams have been co-habiting at Garon Park for the past five seasons.

But they have now opted to work closer together, much to the delight of youth coach Clare Potter.

“When the new season comes it will be very exciting as both clubs will come together as one,” said Potter.

“Although the adult and youth sections will be run independently, this joint venture offers great opportunities for all age groups to progress through a defined pathway.”

In the 2019/20 season, Southendian Manor made the step up to adult football for the first time as they joined the Southend & Basildon Sunday League That also allowed players to sign for Old Southendian in the Olympian League and Borough Combination on Saturday afternoons, another key factor for Potter.

“Coming together provided the adult team with a crop of new players coming out of youth football and the youth teams a route to the next level after under 18 competition,” said Potter.

“Its worked well and Old Southendian FC have a rich history in local football. They have been established for more than 120 years and, with the recently developed 3G all weather pitch at Garon Park now complete, the club offer some of the best facilities locally at grass roots level.

“It also opens opportunities for new friendships and achievements for all associated with the club.”

And the club are also keen to bolster their squads.

“The club are always on the lookout for new players and we have openings available in our mini’s, youth and adult teams next season,” said Potter.

“All you need is a passion for football or just want to be part of our football family. We also run a mini’s session for nursery, reception and Year 1 boys and girls from 9am until 10am at PlayFootball Southend each week. “We will return when we can.”
