With his team likely to be in the social media spotlight, Witham Town manager Marc Benterman says they will take tonight’s Essex Senior Cup tie at Hashtag United “seriously”.

Witham’s third round opponents have a strong presence on social media, with their games videoed and regularly viewed online by thousands and tonight’s action is unlikely to be any different.

Hashtag are currently top of the Essex Senior League – a level below BetVictor Isthmian League division north side Witham – and are likely to be tough opponents for Witham, who have not won in their last seven outings.

So Benterman’s team are looking for a welcome return to winning ways when they head to Tilbury’s Chadfields ground to face Hashtag tonight.

The Town boss said it was a game his team would treat with respect against any opposition, though, and although they may be depleted through injuries, he would field as strong a side as he could.

Benterman said: “We can’t go as strong as we’d like because we have four or five away.

“The whole club – between the first team, the reserves and the under-23s – have 18 or 19 injuries so that’s tough, but we’ll go as strong as we possibly can.

“We’ll treat it with the upmost respect because it’s a big game.

“It’s also going to be on every social media platform out there so we have to take it seriously.

“If we go there and don’t do that and get embarrassed, it will be there for everyone to see.

“So we take it seriously, but having said that, our most important game this week is coming up on Saturday because we need three points in the league.

“We have had some good cup games this year, but it’s ultimately the league that counts and we have to turn the screw and get some more points.”
