Witham Town manager Marc Benterman expects to feel more positive about the BetVictor Isthmian League division north point that his side took from a draw against Romford as this week progresses.

In the immediate aftermath of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at the Simarco Stadium, Benterman admitted to feeling underwhelmed by the result as he felt his team’s second half display merited a stronger return.

That made it feel like two points dropped for the Witham boss after he had seen his side beat Histon 4-1 with a superb performance last weekend.

Having previously said that four points from those two games would be a decent haul, though, he expects to have different feelings as he reflects on the Romford game later in the week ahead of a trip to Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday.

Benterman said: “We said before Saturday’s game at Histon that we’d take four points from six, but on reflection, I was disappointed with how we were against Romford because the first half wasn’t good enough.

“I thought we were phenomenal in the second half and could have won it on the chances we created, but we have to be more ruthless.

“We’ll have to take four points from six, but I think we’ll be more pleased with that later in the week than in the immediate aftermath of the game.

“Right now, it feels like it’s two points dropped.

“We’re just not showing the same intensity for long periods of time.

“We did manage it on Saturday (at Histon) but it’s something we need to work on and we need to be converting more of the chances that we create.

“But it’s two games unbeaten and four points from six.

“We take that and we’re over the moon with the start to the season that we’ve had because it’s one of the best starts at this club for a few years.

“Look at the journey that we’ve come on so far, where we’ve come from and where we are now and you have to reflect on that and realise we’re not doing too bad.

“There are a lot of teams who are not picking up points or winning games and we’re disappointed we’ve dropped two points against Romford.

“We have to reflect on where we are and I think in the coming days we’ll be over the moon with four points from six.”
