BRAINTREE Cricket Club captain Louis Cant won't be getting carried away by seeing his team back in the top two of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two table.

The Dolphins kept the pressure on leaders Frinton seconds with a 32-run win at East Bergholt last weekend and now host Kesgrave on Saturday on the back of four consecutive victories.

With Cant targeting a return to division one for the team this year, the side will naturally be buoyant, but the skipper knows they can't get ahead of themselves and wants his players to maintain their focus on the job in hand rather than being back in the top two in the table.

"I’m not too fussed about it to be honest," he said.

"We will keep playing our positive game and keep focused on what we can control.

"Every win we’ve had has been a 20 point game for us and if carry in on this fashion, with the team we have, I’m still confident we will finish on top."

Braintree won at East Bergholt as, despite the hosts looking as though they would post a winning run chase, they successfully defended their total of 190 by bowling the Suffolk side out for 158.

And Cant was in no doubt over what the key element was in his team's victory.

"Patience," he said.

"Our batsman batted with great care, particularly to their opener, who bowls exceptionally slow and managed to get six wickets against us last year.

"The key to batting on that pitch was to watch every ball and not take any risks, playing shots only to the bad balls.

"It was the same for our bowling attack and fielding plans.

"We bowled a tight line and length, letting the pitch do all of the work for us.

"We starved any batsman that looked like scoring runs and capitalised in every chance they gave us.

"The result goes to show that we are capable of beating the better teams in this league and in a convincing manner.

"We were on a poor wicket that only got worse over the course of the game and we all believed that 180 to 200 was a good score for it."

Warren Celiz top scored for Braintree with 47, but there were contributions all down the Dolphins' order, before Cant claimed three wickets and there were two apiece for Josh Newman, Robbie Spalding and Dean Bass in a performance that demonstrated the depth of quality in the team this season.

"That has been a key element to our success so far this year," added Cant.

"Every player in the squad has stood up at some point so far this season, with bat, ball and in the field."

The next challenge for Braintree, though, is a visit by Kesgrave to Panfield Lane on Saturday, but they will be welcomed by a buoyant home side.

"I'm expecting us to have another extremely strong side," said the Braintree captain.

"The only player unavailable is Barry Stephens, due to injury and having too many 'in-form' players available is a great problem to have as a captain.

"Long may it continue."
