TOM Ansell is excited by the prospect of the most high profile bout of his fledgling professional boxing career this weekend, but the Witham fighter insists he won't be overawed by taking his place on the big stage.

The 26-year-old super lightweight took his record to six wins and no defeats earlier this month when dispatching Leicester's Michael Williams at York Hall in a points victory but is prepared for another step up on Saturday night when he faces Chris Adaway over four rounds at the Copper Box in London.

It means a rapid return to the ring for Ansell, who works as a personal trainer at Witham Leisure Centre, but it gives him a chance to appear on the under card of a show that is headlined by Charlie Edwards as he makes the first defence of his WBC world flyweight title against Spain’s Angel Moreno.

The show, which is being screened live on Sky Sports, also features Joshua Buatsi and Liam Conroy battling for the vacant British light-heavyweight title and Lawrence Okolie and Wadi Camacho fighting for the British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight crown.

And the opportunity to appear alongside such esteemed company was one that Ansell felt he couldn't pass up.

"I never dreamed I'd get something like this as early in my professional career as I have," he said. "It's a Matchroom-promoted event and I'm just hoping to put in a good performance.

"I want to do it because these opportunities don't often come up and you never know where it could lead to.

"Anything could come off the back of it if I can put on a good show."

While he wants to catch the eye of the watching public, though, Ansell said he wasn't intimidated by appearing in front of a nationwide audience.

"That element really doesn't bother me," he added.

"I have fought on TV before and it hasn't fazed me.

"It's just me and an opponent in the ring; that's all that matters and who is watching on doesn't bother me."

Ansell thanked his sponsors Southern Grove, Elite Vans Ltd, Nick Ansell Pt, Food 1 consultancy, Red Lift Hire, BD Electrical Contractors, Bfuelled, Top Guard UK, Holts of Witham and the Wheatsheaf Hatfield Peverel.
