BRAINTREE Town's hopes of getting their FA Trophy first round tie played at Salisbury have been frustrated again by the weather.

The tie had been due to be played on Saturday, but the heavy rain delivered by Storm Deirdre caused the Salisbury pitch to be waterlogged and the tie had to be rearranged to Tuesday evening.

However, further wet weather during the day on Tuesday means the game has had to be called off again.

Salisbury have confirmed on their club website that the tie will now be played on Tuesday, January 8 (kick-off 7.45pm).

An initial pitch inspection was held on Tuesday lunchtime and the playing surface was deemed fit for the game to take place but a subsequent examination at 4pm revealed that it would be too soggy for the game to go ahead.

A new date for the fixture will now have to be agreed by the two clubs.

Braintree are due to be at home on Saturday for a pre-Christmas fixture in the Vanarama National League, when Boreham Wood are set to be the visitors to Cressing Road.

When the Trophy game does get played, both Braintree and Salisbury will know know that a trip to Bostik League premier division side Carshalton will be the reward on offer in the second round.

The Robins booked their place in the second round with a 1-0 home win against fellow Bostik League premier division side Dorking Wanderers at the weekend.
