MANAGER Mark Ashford says Witham Town's latest recruits have helped develop their squad and the Town boss feels he now has the competition for places that they need to get themselves up the Bostik League division north table.

Included in Witham’s line-up for their 2-0 win against AFC Sudbury last weekend was new signing Luke Foster, who made his debut after signing from Brentwood, and Ashford was pleased to have him on board.

“Luke has come in from Brentwood and I’m delighted to have him on board,” added the Town boss, whose side will host Romford at the Village Glass Stadium on Saturday.

“He’s a very good player technically and someone who I was trying to get in pre-season so I’m pleased to have him now.

“He wasn’t getting as much football as he wanted at Brentwood, but he is a very good player and he fits the profile of not just the player, but the type of person that I want.

“He’s a great person to have around both on and off the field and he’s with us for all the right reasons.

“With Luke, Kevin Coyle and (Odukoya) Ayo, we feel we’ve brought in some real quality recently.

“I’m hoping to have another player in place ahead of the game against Romford on Saturday; someone who also has step four experience and it’s been a good spell for us.

“I always said at the start of the season that we probably wouldn’t have our best team until the end of November or into December and it’s turned out that way.

“We now have competition for places all over the pitch and I’ve said to the players that no-one can afford to take it easy now as there are others ready to take their place.

“Considering the resources we have available as a club, I think that’s a tremendous position to be in and I think our recruitment is done now and we can push on.”
