HAKAN Hayrettin's only disappointment from Braintree Town's trip to Salford City was that Braintree Town's players and staff hadn't received more credit for what they achieved in drawing 2-2 with one of the Vanarama National League's biggest spending clubs.

Bottom-placed Braintree were denied a three-point haul by a 93rd minute goal at Salford and while that was a frustration, the fact they had outplayed the leaders over 90 minutes - despite also conceding after just one minute at the start of the game - was a source of pride for Hayrettin and the Iron players.

However, Hayrettin, who is Braintree's caretaker manager following the departure last week of Brad Quinton, said he had been disappointed to see reports in the national press that suggested it was Salford being under par rather than the Iron's strong display that had seen the high-fliers humbled.

He said: "I wasn't disappointed at all that we hadn't held on at the end because everyone was expecting us to go there and get turned over - they were expecting us to lose 6-0.

"But it was a good performance by the players.

"We got them organised, we played well and we stopped Salford from playing.

"They said they did not play well and it was all about them not performing, but give us the credit we deserved as we were just better then them.

"That is important and there has not been enough credit coming to Braintree's players.

"I saw in the national press over the weekend that we had just one player in the team-of-the-week and weren't mentioned in the manager of the week notes, but look at what we achieved at Salford and surely there should be more recognition.

"The team of the week should have been full of Braintree Town players."
