JAKE Cass is confident that the step up of two levels of the non-league football ladder is one that he can make and he can continue his goalscoring form in Braintree Town colours.

The 25-year-old striker joined the Iron last week from Bostik League premier division side Bishop's Stortford and made his Iron debut in the 2-1 defeat by Eastleigh on Saturday, before also starting in the 4-0 Essex Senior Cup win against Canvey Island in midweek.

Cass arrived at Braintree having scored six goals in eight appearances for Stortford this year, so has come in full of confidence and although he hasn't scored yet for his new club, he knows he can move up to the higher level of the National League.

Cass said: "It's two leagues up from where I have come from and it was a tough test on Saturday, but I enjoyed it. "I didn't find it massively overwhelming as I'm confident in myself and feel I can do well.

"I think I'm more than capable of playing at this level.

"It may take a little while to fully adapt to it, but I feel OK.

"I've been in good form this year for Bishop's Stortford and I think I can bring that form to Braintree.

"I had two chances against Eastleigh and while the rub of the green wasn't really with me, I back myself to do well and get chances in games.

"It would be nice to get the ball a bit more in that top third but I'm confident that chances will come."

Cass and his Braintree team-mates head to Vanarama National League leaders Salford City on Saturday looking to get themselves clear of the foot of the table under caretaker manager Hakan Hayrettin and the new striker is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

He added: "The league table doesn't lie and where we are can affect confidence as the luck doesn't tend to go with you when you're down there.

"But we will pick ourselves up and turn things around.

"I'm looking forward to some big games coming up, although I'm unfortunately cup-tied for the FA Cup game (at Barnet) because I've played in previous rounds for Stortford.

"But I'm looking forward to heading up to Salford (on Saturday), doing my thing and hopefully getting a goal or two."
