CHAIRMAN Lee Harding says he and the club's board won't be making any rash decisions on a successor to Brad Quinton as Braintree Town manager.

Quinton departed the Iron's hotseat in the aftermath of a 2-1 defeat by Eastleigh on Saturday that left them rock bottom of the Vanarama National League table, but despite their current predicament Harding isn't going to be hasty in appointing the next boss.

He said a caretaker manager was set to be appointed in the next 24 hours and would take charge of Tuesday's Essex Senior Cup third round tie against Canvey Island at Cressing Road (kick-off 7.45pm) and the board would be reviewing their options going forward in the longer term.

Harding said: "We are hoping to get the caretaker's position finalised over the next 24 hours ahead of the Essex Senior Cup game against Canvey.

"There are some people who want the job full-time and I've already seen CVs coming in, but I'm not sure that we need to rush.

"We have some friends who we can turn to in a caretaker capacity and that will allow us to have some breathing space.

"I know we have some big games coming up, but I think it would be unfair to rush into an appointment and say to a newcomer 'make sure you win' when they are coming up against (National League leaders) Salford, who we have on Saturday.

"We need to be a bit patient, I think.

"If we get someone applying who ticks all the boxes then we'll go with it but what is the point in rushing.

"We have time and we have 90-plus points still to play for and the FA Cup to look forward to.

"I'm looking to the players to see what they can do now.

"We will get in someone to co-ordinate things and I'm looking at the players to see whether they want to be here.

"The idea for now is to have a caretaker as someone to steady the ship and we will be talking with people, but we're not rushing into anything."
