Braintree Town manager Brad Quinton promised changes to his attacking options and the Iron boss has delivered.

With his team sat bottom of the Vanarama National League table having scored just eight goals in 14 games, Quinton knew he had to do something to change fortunes around.

He said he was expecting more to come, but had already completed the signing of Bishop’s Stortford striker Jake Cass and said the 25-year-old was exactly the type of player that he needed.

“We’ve got one over the line and another is close but we’re just waiting for the paperwork to be signed off,” said the Iron boss.

“The one we’ve got is Jake Cass, who has been at Bishop’s Stortford and has been banging in goals for them there.

“He is exactly the type of player we want.

“My ethos now is the same as how I approached it last year in that I want players who are young and with a hunger and who can be coached and progressed.

“That’s the role we have and because of the budget that we have, we have to stick to what we can do.

“That’s the reason we are doing it and I need to have players who want to play for me and who want to improve.

“That’s what I like about Jake as he fits that bill perfectly.

“He is level-headed and he’s a winner; he hates losing – like myself – and I’m glad to have him with us.”

Cass arrived at Bishop’s Stortford after a prolific spell with Chalfont St Peter in the Evo-Stick League south-east division and counts Hendon and East Thurrock United among his former clubs as well.

He has scored six goals in eight games so far this season for Bostik League premier division side Bishop’s Stortford.

The other player Quinton was waiting for paperwork to be completed on will be coming to Braintree on a loan deal from a National League South club if it can be got over the line.

But with his new additions, the Iron boss admits that his budget constraints mean he will have to shuffle his squad, with some existing players moving on or having loan spells away themselves.

Quinton added: “It is something we are looking at and I have to be honest and realistic about that and with what we have got.

“I feel we have given everyone enough time and chances and things do need to happen now.

“I’m still out looking as I’m constantly looking at how we can improve.

“I’m always watching under-23s football for players who could add to us and we are talking to League One and even Championship sides so we are still looking to do things.”

Quinton added that he was also in advanced discussions with a couple of other clubs for two more attacking players that may be got over the line in coming days.
