BRAINTREE Town manager Brad Quinton is suggesting extra shooting practice for his players as a way to get over their shot-shy ways in the Vanarama National League.

The Iron stayed bottom of the table following a 3-0 defeat at AFC Fylde last weekend and Quinton knew it was missed scoring opportunities that had really hurt his team.

“It was just gutting after Saturday,” he said.

“I thought Danny Rowe should have scored after seven or eight seconds and the fact we didn’t set the tone really.

“We then gave a sloppy goal away, but then had two clear penalty shouts turned down.

“After the second one, the referee came over and said he needed to come off due to concussion and I said maybe that’s why he missed the penalties.

“Their manager just said to me that you couldn’t make it up.

“I just think it sums up everything that’s happening to us at the moment.

“I travelled up on the day by train while the lads went up on the coach because I had to go into work to get some things done in the morning.

“I met one of our fans who was heading up and he told me that fans were going all the way up there because they knew that we’d play good football and create opportunities.

“I said I hoped that would be case and then that happens?

“I saw the same guy after the game as well and I was humbled when he told me that he had set off at 5am and appreciated that we had given it our all and once again not got the credit for what we’d done.

“Players have been saying to me this week that they’re sorry for not making more of things and that’s good that they feel that way, but, from the chances we had, we should have got something.”

Quinton has been looking to make changes to his squad this week, but he knows everyone needs to sharpen up in front of goal ahead of Saturday's home game against Eastleigh.

He added: “It is very hard; we do so much shooting work with them in training, but maybe we should do nothing other than that.

“That means everyone.

“It’s a nightmare for me to stand and watch what is happening in games because it is the same things happening each week. All we can do is work harder and harder and harder until it comes.”
