A BRACE of Ed Newton strikes took Western Arms from fourth up to second in the Braintree and North Essex League premier division table as they beat Braintree Iron 2-1 at home.

Iron had started the say sat second and their consolation goal came from Lewis Soraf.

Great Notley hosted third-placed Nags Head Celtic, but were unable to prevent the visitors winning 3-2 to move them to the top of the table.

Notley’s goals came from Ross Layton and Callum Paradine and Celtic’s scorers were Rory Bone, Sean Radley and Matthew Knowles.

Witham United won 5-1 at Great Bardfield to move up to seventh, while there was a 1-1 draw at Great Bradfords as they hosted Bocking Social.

Bradfords' goal was scored by Tom Diughty, with Alex Cutts replying for Bocking.

In division one, Tiptree Elite won 4-3 at home against Witham Nomads to and stay top, but second-placed Panfield Bell kept the pressure on with a 4-2 win against Onley Arms.

Ben Parker hit a hat-trick for Panfield, while Jo Johnson got one and Onley Arms had Luke Hammond and Ben Collar on target.

Isaac Falk scored for Bocking Eagles as they drew 1-1 with Dunmow Rhodes, who had George Hamill on target, but only a point apiece saw both teams drop down

Braintree Legends hosted Tiptree Jobserve and an own goal allowed them to win 1-0 to move into third place, while Sporting 77 won 5-1 at Notley FC to move up to fourth place.

Jordan Phillips scored a hat-trick and Sporting's other strikes were by Lee Sexton and Chris Cook.

Division two leaders Manor Works beat Witham Town 2-1 but they still dropped down a place as Notley Reserves jumped above them with a 6-0 hammering of fourth-placed Heybridge Harriers.

Tristan Woolfenden was on target four times for Notley and Sam Love and Danny Downes got one each.

Finchingfield Rovers won 6-2 against Witham Phoenix, who had Fab Williams and Richard Niall scoring, while two Liam O’Reilly goals and strikes from Louie Wellington and Adam Collins saw Tiptree Jobserve Reserves win 4-1 against Great Bradfords Reserves, whose consolation came from Jordain Tighe.

Witham White Horse went third with a 2-1 win against Tolleshunt Knight Eagles thanks to goals from Sean Howard and Ben Platten.
