WITHAM Cricket Club made light work of their run chase as they hunted down Coggeshall's total for a third Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one win in a row.

Skipper Jake Wakelin was pleased to see his team perform with both bat and ball and felt it had been a comfortable win in the end as they got to their target with 11 overs to spare at the end.

Having lost the toss and been asked to field first, Witham restricted Coggeshall to 177 for nine from their 50 overs, with Leroy Facey taking four for 31 and Greg Stephens and Shaun Bragg both picking up two wickets apiece.

Despite a wobble at the top of their response, it was a total that the Witham batsmen easily chased down as Simon Jones top scored with a knock of 52 and they ended up as five-wicket winners.

However, Wakelin felt it wasn't a complete display and insisted that there was more to come from his team.

He said: "It was a nice comfortable win in the end, with a few overs to spare, and a good one to win after we lost the toss and had to field in the hottest part of the day.

"We got off to a good start, though, as Leroy (Facey) and Shaun (Bragg) made a brilliant start with the ball.

"They not only took wickets but they kept the run rate down and that was important.

"I felt we fielded very well and we were pleased to keep them down to a score that we felt was under par.

"Our reply showed there improvements that we still need to make as we were struggling at 11 for two but from not a great position, we showed the depth that we have in our line-up as Michael Godwin, Jim Suett, Simon Jones and Forster (Mutizwa) all put scores on the board.

"There wasn't anyone who really pushed on for the big score but they all made contributions and we got over the line with 11 overs remaining.

"There are still areas where we need to improve, but we have the winning feeling back and we feel we are on a roll now.
