BRAINTREE and Bocking Angling Society's trip to Clare to fish the Cable Pond once again provided a good match.
To visit the venue for the first time would not exactly make anglers keen to tackle u, as the pond is eight to ten feet deep and, at this time of year, is extremely clear, but the fish do still feed.
Billy Walker landed skimmers, roach and a chub around the 3lb mark to win the match with a total weight of 25-12-0. Runner-up Pete Thompson had a small carp a tench, a big chub and several decent bream with roach to give him 22-7-0 and Gary Spong had skimmers and roach in his third-placed 20-8-0.
The club's Friday Sweep at Notley provided a decent day's fishing for Jim Loosley, who had five F1s, two small carp with roach and skimmers for a match-winning total of 19-6-0.
Pete Thompson drew peg three for the fourth match running and once again had a late carp to thank for boosting his weight to 10-5-0 and second place.
