PAT Brown hosted her Captain's Day at Witham Bowls Club with 17 other clubs invited.

It was a perfect day for bowling and everyone had an enjoyable time.

A spider was held after the ladies played seven ends, in aid of the Breast Cancer Charity and run by Jenny McDonald, one of the ladies at Witham who has just been informed that she is in full remission from this illness.

A total of £125 was raised by the ladies present, which raised a loud cheer from everyone.

At the end of the day. the ladies' captain was presented with a gift of a crystal vase by Joan Barrett and a huge bouquet by Pat Wilson on behalf of the ladies of Witham Bowls Club for all her hard work during the year.

Meanwhile, the club's North West Essex ladies beat Braintree and are now fourth in the league.

In the men's North West Essex League, there was a 6-2 win for Witham's A team against top-of-the-table Silver End A.

Witham B won 6-2 against Halstead to stay on track for promotion, but the C team lost to a strong team from Halstead.

In the Central Midweek Bowls League, Witham A lost to Chelmsford A in a rare defeat.

Witham also hosted the ladies' Top Club semi-final and the final will now be between Rainham and Runwell Hospital.
