Witham Town manager Garry Kimble is on the lookout for a striker to “get under the skin” of their opponents.

The Town boss has added Lewis Francis and Ricky Loveridge to his forward line in the last week, but he said he still wants to bolster his attacking options further with a striker who can “put themselves about a bit”.

Francis was on target in his first Witham performance as they lost 2-1 to AFC Sudbury on Boxing Day and they now head to another of the Ryman League division north’s promotion contenders, AFC Hornchurch, on Saturday looking to end a four-game losing run.

Kimble was impressed with Francis’ debut show, but he still wants to bring in another forward.

The Town manager said: “Lewis scored on his debut, which is a good sign.

“He is quick and direct, looks comfortable with the ball and he wants to play football.

“He has done ever so well and he looked sharp and fresh and added another dimension to our game.

“He could be what we’re looking for, but I think I need a different type of striker really.

“I definitely need a striker and what I’m looking for is a big guy who can put themselves about a bit.

“Someone who can do what Harry Cook did to us when we played at Tilbury.

“He got under the skin and ruffled a few feathers and we don’t have someone to play that particular role in the squad at the moment.”

As well as bringing in Francis and with a busy spell coming up during January, Kimble has moved to add extra depth to the squad with a couple of other signings.

Young former Heybridge Swifts striker Ricky Loveridge has come in and midfielder Lewis Payne has also joined from Cheshunt.

Kimble said: “We will be playing Saturday-Tuesday games for a while and we need a bit more strength in depth.

“Junior (Abdul Sannoh) has picked up a metatarsal injury that will keep him out for about four weeks so we need some more depth.”

One positive piece of news is that Simon Glover may be available for the trip to Hornchurch to face one of his former clubs after recovering from a back problem that has kept him sidelined for the last month.

Full-back Mitch Hunter is set to miss out with an ongoing groin injury, though, and centre-half Lance Akins will miss the game at the Urchins through suspension.
