With just a few weeks to go in the Essex Invitation Petanque League season, Onley Arms lead the way, but they are still being pushed by Thorley and Three Elms 1, while Bocking 1 have games in hand and could still figure in the top three.
Onley travelled to Thorley and the visitors from Stisted took the triples 13-7.
Always in front, Trevor Blows, Lorne Gibson and Beryl Gibson played well on the sticky surface, before the Gibson pairing then took the doubles 13-9 to win the match.
It was left to Trevor Blows and Ken Kilbey to produce the best game of the day in the singles, with Kilbey holding his nerve at the end to claim a 13-12 victory for a 2-1 match score.
Blackwater U3A travelled to Bocking 2 and helped themselves to a 3-0 win.
Bocking’s Ian Ruffle, Christina Knights and Richard Tite were beaten 13-4 in the triples, before a 13-6 pairs loss and Tite was beaten 13-5 in the singles, however, the games were closer than the scores suggested.
Three Elms 2 visited Billericay and were well beaten in a 3-0 result.
