Braintree and Bocking Angling Society’s trip to Clare had a last-minute switch from the Long Pond to Cable Pond at the owners request as he shuts the venue for the winter break, but the change proved to be perfect for Pete Thompson.
He found roach and bream to the pound mark willing to feed on caster in the 8ft deep swim and he caught throughout the match to win the McDowell Cup with a 16-8-0 total.
Jim Loosley was in second place with 6-8-0 of smaller stamp fish and a similar net weighing 5-12-0 gave Gary Spong third place.
The Club’s Friday Sweep at Notley was hard going for most of the competitors, but Keith Nash was a clear winner, landing two carp, two good-sized perch, plus F1s and other small fish for a total weight of 17-0-0.
Second spot went to John Daniels, who managed to catch one carp on the tip to boost his weight to 6-4-0.
