Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire felt his side deserved something from their trip to Woking but a failure to score proved costly again for the Iron.
Their 1-0 defeat means they have drawn a blank in their last two Vanarama Conference Premier outings and with John Goddard finding the target at the other end before the break, the Iron lost as they dropped to 18th in the table.
Devonshire made two changes from the side that started in their last game against Welling, with Mitch Brundle coming for the injured Ryan Peters and skipper Kenny Davis coming back in for Matt Paine, who dropped to the bench.
It was Davis who probably had the best of the efforts before the break for the visitors with a curling shot in the 34th minute that had Woking keeper Ross Worner scrambling to palm it away.
However, the breakthrough did come at the other end.
In the 38th minute, Goddard’s shot from outside the box had enough on it to go past Nick Hamman in the Iron goal.
Braintree did have more opportunities, with James Mulley heading over, Davis firing high and Sean Marks heading wide when well-placed, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
Devonshire said: “I’m gutted for them because I felt we deserved something out of the game.
“There are no excuses, it was a very even game – they nicked a goal and we didn’t.
“That was the difference.”
