A pensioner was rushed to hospital after being it by a car in a busy road.

The 74-year-old was seriously injured after being knocked down in Southend Road, Hockley.

A huge police cordon was in place and about five police cars were seen in the road.

Officers are enquires are ongoing.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called shortly before 10am on 28 November to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a Toyota Corolla near in Southend Road, Hockley.

"The 74-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed while emergency services were on scene.

"Enquiries remain ongoing."
