Two people were spotted fleeing a sinking boat off the coast of Southend.

HM Coastguard Southend were yesterday (November 22) called to reports of a sunken vessel opposite the Roslin Hotel, which the duo had been spotted rowing away from before it started sinking.

Southend Coastguard proceeded to the scene alongside Southend RNLI who launched their D-Class lifeboat.

While RNLI checked out the sunken vessel to make sure there wasn't anybody still onboard, Southend Coastguard began to make enquiries on the beach.

The team were able to track down relatives of the owners of the boat, who were contacted and were able to confirm nobody else was onboard.

The owner then made their way back to the scene to speak with Southend Coastguard, where details were taken and passed over to Dover Coastguard control centre.

It was then agreed that owners would return later yesterday evening at low tide to check the vessel, pump any water out and make any repairs.
