A FULL year group will have to self-isolate following a Covid-19 case at a school.

Year Ten pupils at Ortu Gable Hall School in Corringham will have to self-isolate until Tuesday following a pupil testing positive for the virus.

A spokesman for the school said: "We have had confirmation of a positive Covid test in year ten.

"The student who tested positive has not been in school since Monday 12th October, this means that all year ten students will have to self-isolate until Tuesday 27th October.

"Our IT systems are down until Monday 19th October. Once they are back up and running, we will email out an official letter.

"Please can we ask you to pass this information on to any parents you know with students in year ten."

The school also reported that "nasty" messages had been spread on social media following the virus case.

It added: "Please can we ask our parents to monitor their children's social media accounts. We have been informed of some nasty messages in regards to this being circulated and we want to put a stop to it.

"We are all following government guidelines with regards to the virus and we understand that students are upset that this has happened during half term, but nobody can control this virus.

"Thank you for your support."
