HUNDREDS of cannabis plants have been discovered after a police raid.

Residents spotted multiple police cars heading into Rayleigh in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Witnesses at the scene saw the police going into a building in the Brook Road estate near the junction of the A127 at Rayleigh Weir.

One person near the scene said around a dozen police cars were in attendance.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We executed a warrant at an address at Brook Road Industrial Estate in Rayleigh at around 9.20am on Thursday August 13.

"We found around 200 cannabis plants inside.

"We arrested a 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old man on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

"The plants are being seized and our enquiries are ongoing."

The men remain in custody for questioning in connection to the incident.
