A motorcyclist has been arrested after a cyclist was left with potentially life-changing injuries in a serious crash.

A police probe has now been launched following the crash, which happened on St Nicholas Road, Basildon, yesterday evening (August 9).

Officers were called at around 5.30pm with reports that a motorcycle had been in collision with a pedestrian at the junction with Leinster Road, as she had been crossing. 

Police teams and paramedics arrived to find a woman in her fourties had suffered serious and potentially life-changing injuries. She was then taken to hospital by air ambulance.

A 26-year-old man from Basildon has now been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. 

He remains in police custody.
