TWO people have fiercely denied robbing a woman of jewellery.
Terry Ford and Samantha Neighbour appeared at court yesterday to answer a joint charge of robbery, with Neighbour also being charged with assault and damaging property.
Ford, 34, of Great Ranton, Pitsea, appeared via video link from Chelmsford prison while Neighbour, 47, of Craylands, Basildon, appeared in person.
It is alleged the duo, between July 2 and 5 this year, robbed a woman of a golden necklace, earrings and other items.
It is also alleged that during the same period, Neighbour damaged a glass table and also assaulted another person.
Both denied the charges, and Ford became angry over the video link.
He said: “I’m not a spineless coward. Of course I’m not guilty.
“I can’t believe I am having these conversations.”
Neighbour interrupted Judge Ian Graham as he addressed her, telling him that Ford “had done nothing wrong”.
She said: “I don’t think this is fair. You seem like a reasonable man. I had to say something.”
The case has been adjourned until the week beginning September 28, when a trial date will be fixed, as they cannot yet be allocated due to the limitations from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ford also objected to the fact that he was remanded in custody.
Addressing Ford, Judge Graham said: “I know you’re quite agitated about custody but a bail application will be made.
“You have both pleaded not guilty to the charges so there will have to be a trial.
“Keep in touch with your solicitors as they need to prepare a document for your defence statement.”
