A huge new Lidl will be opening next year.

The new supermarket will be coming to Laindon in Autumn 2021, after a deal was signed between the chain and Swan Housing, who are in charge of the build.

The move comes as part of the Laindon Place regeneration project, where the new supermarket will be built.

Lidl will move out of their existing premises on Manor Road in Laindon, which will provide more homes as part of the scheme.

This comes as both Aldi and Lidl are racing to build supermarkets across South Essex.

The supermarket giants plan to build 14 new stores across the region.

It is hoped the brand new supermarket will significantly boost customers and interest in the nearby homes, with 20 per cent more car parking available for the shop.

The new supermarket will be built at the Danacre end of the Laindon Place regeneration, and will feature a fresh bakery, customer toilets and baby changing facilities.

It is yet unknown whether the current store on Manor Road will be knocked down  for houses to be built, or converted into new homes.

Swan Housing are also creating a new high street nearby.

Geoff Pearce, deputy chief executive at Swan Housing Association said “We are delighted to conclude this deal with Lidl.

"Not only will it bring a much larger Lidl store to the area, it will also enable us to build more new homes on Lidl’s existing site.

"Swan remains dedicated to ensuring Laindon Place provides a vibrant new high street for Laindon and transforms the centre of the town in the way the local community told us they wanted.”

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Andrew Hodgkinson, added: “We are delighted to be re-locating our store in Laindon, which marks another milestone in our ambitious store expansion programme.

"We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to improving our offering in Laindon.”
