Police have issued a first update on why forensic teams were spotted in Pitsea.
The force have said a woman has reported sustaining an injury to her arm during the incident on Chestnut Road, at around 5.30pm last night.
It is yet unknown how the injury occurred.
Witnesses have told the Echo police officers indicated at the scene a stabbing had taken place.
Essex Police have said an argument took place between five people nearby.
Forensics left the scene at around 10.30pm.
A spokesman said: "Detectives are appealing for information following reports of an altercation in Chestnut Road, Basildon, on Thursday 25 June at around 7.55pm.
"It is reported that a group of around 5 people were having an argument.
"A woman was reported to have received an injury to her arm.
"If you believe this might have been you or you know this person, can you please contact us on 101 we would like to make sure she is ok.
"If anyone have any information, CCTV or dashcam footage please call us on 101 quoting crime reference 42/92945/20, you can also report it online."
