PILES of waste including trikes and tables have been dumped at a busy junction, causing anger.

The rubbish was found by residents at the junction of Elm Road and Furtherwick Road on Canvey on Monday.

Angry residents and community stalwarts have blasted the flytippers - calling for the culprits to be named and shamed.

The piles of rubbish includes children’s climbing equipment, tables and even motorised trikes.

Alan Clark, 70, from Canvey, a full-time carer, said: “Scumbags have flytipped this waste at the junction of Elm Road and Furtherwick Road.

“We must find them and fine them the maximum penalties allowed. Such selfish people.”

He posted images and outlined his fury on Facebook and it was met by outrage in the island community.

One woman said: “I am so sorry to see this.

“Someone must know these scumbags too, let’s name and shame and report them.

“As if we haven’t got enough going on.”

Another posted: “This is totally disgusting, they should pay for a skip as the firms are still working.

“We have just ripped up our decking and hired a skip for the rubbish, we have not dumped it in a road, these people should be heavily fined.”

Former Canvey councillor Ray Howard said these flytippers must be brought to justice.

He said: “It’s just so disgusting that people do this, but even worse when the whole country is battling this awful coronavirus.

“I really do hope the council can find information and documents for these people and catch them.

“Our council teams and waste collectors are doing a fantastic job and really do not need this extra work and pressure.

“Some people do not care at all about others and our environment, and I find it all so disheartening.

“These people must be caught and named and shamed very soon, as we cannot have people going about and getting away with this.

“The rest of the country is all pulling together and yet a minority of people feel this is acceptable.”

It comes days after recycling centres were shut across the county, but council bosses have been reassuring residents the usual refuse collections are going ahead.

Castle Point Council was contacted for comment.
